Y'all. And I only use the non-word y'all when it's serious.
So, as I was saying. Y'all... I have decorating anxiety. I am crippled! This have never happened to me before! I'm lost and confused. I think because we actually
own this home, that I'm scared to screw it up and am, therefore, frozen. I'm trying (and mostly failing) to pick paint colors, but I can't pull the trigger on anything!
What is wrong with me?!
Pretty much everything we've done so far, granted we've only been living here like a week:
Most of the furniture has been moved over and assembled. Yay for sleeping in bed and not on a mattress on the floor anymore! We added a second desk attachment to our Ikea Expidit desk (top right), so we both have our own side, which I love! Now I have to find two matching chairs for that. We also scored a beautiful deep teal rug (top left) from Ikea for 50% off. Also, Ikea cinnamon rolls. Yum.
We ordered some Flor tiles which I am basically obsessed with. They look like rorschach tests, don't they? Love, love, love. M brought them over from the apartment last night and I promptly started hacking at them to create this:
I have to say, I'm pretty proud of myself. It only took two hours to get them cut and laid out. I think I'd like to add some twill edging and nailhead trim to the sides, but that can wait. For now, I'm super happy with how it turned out, despite the fact that I didn't have a straight edge and grossly overestimated my ability to cut a straight line.
Now onto my paint dilemma. I took our floorplan and tweaked it with the uber professional tool I like to call MS Paint. The whole house is currently painted in Gallery Taupe by Behr, which is a nice neutral greige and I'll probably keep some of the spaces that color for the time being. I know I definitely want to paint all the bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, and my closet. Wow... that sounds like a lot now that I see it written down. Anywho, color contenders:
I definitely want to paint the bedroom a dusky purple- I think it's so pretty and soothing. Just based on photos alone, I'm leaning toward Sanctuary by Benjamin Moore (bottom right, if you're hard of reading). Of course, I'll get samples of all of them and swatch them on the wall to see how they do in our lighting, but that's the top pick for now.
I'm thinking something light and minty in the kitchen, as I'd like to eradicate the red from our old kitchen and focus on seaglass shades. Sherwin William's Windowpane is #1 right now, because I'm a coward and it's the softest color. Anything too bright and it will be sure to irritate the hell out of me, although I'm kind of in love with every single color here. Again swatching will reveal all.
I was originally going to paint the office grey, but now I'm thinking about painting the master bath grey and painting the office a different color. Or maybe just two different greys? Either way, it's a toss up between SW On The Rocks and SW Agreeable Gray.
The dining room is definitely getting this shade:
Benjamin Moore Dragonfly. I first spotted it in John & Sherry's
built in cabinets on
Young House Love and fell in, well, love. Looking at it more, I actually like how it looks in larger spaces. The office or guest bed, perhaps?
Those are the only (pseuo) definites so far, so we'll see how it goes! What are your favorite shades? Any ideas or suggestions on which colors should go where? TIA!
