Foxy Fridays

Yay! New series! Since I'm finally getting more serious about focusing on my freelance makeup business, I figured it would be fitting to pay tribute to that here! Ergo, Foxy Fridays!

Foxy Fridays will be a series featuring a makeup inspiration photo as well as suggested products and tips and tricks to recreate the looks! I would absolutely adore some reader questions- so if you have any inspiration photos that you're just dying to duplicate, send 'em my way! mrsmakesmeblush@gmail.com

Bronze smoky eye made even more dramatic with a pop of glitter and a cat eye!

TOOLS

Angled brush (brows & liner), blending brush (shadow), definer brush (shadow & glitter)

 PRODUCTS
1. Stila Kitten eyeshadow 2. MAC Brown Down eyeshadow 3. MUFE Sand Glitter 4. MAC Coquette eyeshadow 5. MAC Soft Ochre paint pot 6. MAC Blacktrack Fluidline gel eyeliner 7. Too Faced Glitter Glue

First thing's first. Soft Ochre paint pot is my everyday non-negotiable. It's the most amazing primer ever. Just a little bit all over the lid before shadow, and it will last allll day long. Even after a night of partying. Apply that first- just a thin layer with your fingertip.

Next you want to use your blending brush to apply Kitten on your brow bone and inner corner of your eye. Use your definer brush to add Brown Down just to the crease, then pick up your blending brush again to blend it out.

Take your definer brush to pat a little bit of glitter glue just to the lower part of your eyelid, then use the same brush to pat on a layer of glitter.

Before you apply your eyeliner, use your angle brush and Coquette eyeshadow to fill in and shape your brows. This color looks funky in the pot, but it is the most perfect brunette brow color. I use it every single day. Try MAC Soba or Omega eyeshadows if you're blonde, and Saddle or Brown Script if you're a redhead. Now use the same brush (dust off the excess shadow first) to apply the gel eyeliner.

Here's a great photo tutorial on how to do a cateye. If you're anything like me, photos work much better than words, so I'll let this do the talking:

As you get better and more practiced, you can tweak the shape of the liner, but for now this is a great straight forward tutorial for a simple winged liner.

Add a little black liner in the waterline of your eye, a few coats of mascara, and voila! You're good to go!

DIWrong

This post is basically an exercise in how to DIY everything incorrectly and hope that it's still functional. Also known as: I'm too lazy to go to the store and get what I need and/or fix whatever it is I just screwed up. I just keep on rolling. For example:

Let's start with something simple that has haunted me all my days. I can't make chocolate covered strawberries. I follow the instructions on the chocolate, and it's NEVER smooth! I don't understand. I can do so many things! I promise! Why can't I do this?! I at least tried to detract from their ugliness by painting them with fourth of July crap. Nope. Didn't work. Still ugly.

Next up, I made this tray out of an old cheap black picture frame. I really like how it turned out, but in all reality I just slapped on some metallic acrylic paint, attempted to freehand a lace pattern, and hot glued the shit out of the glass so it wouldn't fall out of the bottom of the frame. I'm still trying to figure out what to do so the glass doesn't buckle when I set something heavy on it. Or maybe just not set anything heavy on it. But that's too easy. Ideas?

Oh, upholstery. I've reupholsted a few things in my day. Well, if you can call it reupholstery. I mostly just stretch fabric, tuck ends in, and use a ton of hot glue and a prayer. Funny story about this one. I didn't buy enough fabric-because I don't have the foresight to measure anything- so I had to cut it in half. That ribbon down the center is a total improvisation to hide the seam on the two fabric panels. It still needs some work to make it more sturdy (read: extra hot glue) but I think it turned out pretty cute, right? Spade seems to be enjoying it, at least.

Last, and most recently, a terrarium. I've been dying to make one! I bought the vessel months ago and it's just been sitting empty. I actually did something right this time and bought silicone caulking (i enjoy walking around Home Depot saying "I need caulk". Cause it sounds funny.) so we wouldn't have any water leakage. But that's where my effort ends. I found a tutorial online, but it had too many words, so I just dumped a bag o' rocks on the bottom, then some potting soil, placed my succulents, then added some moss. I guess we'll see how it works out. Tiny squirrel is pretty damn cute though, huh?

Are you a half-assed DIYer like me? What's the last thing you half-ass DIY'd?

P.S. We finally have a Facebook page! Spare a like, you will?

Tagged.

Recently a fellow blogger tagged me in a Liebster Award chain, so here are my answers to her 11 questions! Thanks Kim!

  1. What 3 words would you use to describe yourself? Quirky, Outspoken, Feminine.
  2. What is your favourite item of clothing and why? I have a collection of my 4 most important dresses ever stuffed in the back of my closet: my wedding gown, my blue sequin wedding reception dress, my pale pink feathered senior prom dress, and my black high school graduation dress. All have never been cleaned. I have a weird attachment to the dirt and grass and air that clings to special occasion clothes.
  3. MP3, CD or Vinyl? I wish I could be cool and say vinyl, but I'm a lazy MP3 girl.
  4. What was the first album you ever bought? Hahaha, with my own money? I want to say Christina Aguilera's "Genie in a Bottle". Shame.
  5. Heels or flats? Either, it just depends on where I'm going.
  6. If you were a superhero what would your power be? Invisibility. Easy. Well, that or eating whatever I want and never getting fat. A super power for the modern woman.
  7. Who was your first crush? Celebrity? Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Duh.
  8. Cats or dogs? I love them both, but I'm definitely more of a dog person. Plus, I'm allergic to cats. Boo.
  9. Would you like to travel back in time or see the future if you had the choice? Oh geez. Neither. I would only be interested in traveling to the future if it were the very distant future. I wouldn't want to know anything pertaining to my own life.
  10. If money were no object, what would you buy? All the things! I would travel the world and have a ton of pets.
  11. Ice-cream or cake? Ice cream, no contest. I have a serious disdain for cake. Cupcakes I can handle, but sheet cakes or layer cakes? Blech.

I'm not going to tag anyone because I'm lazy, but answer your favorite question in the comments section! I love learning random facts about people!

Self Styled

Because I wear all black to work every single day, I've been trying to mix it up a little more in my everyday life. No throwing on jeans and a t-shirt, and absolutely no black. None. It's so easy to get in a rut and just buy black all the time, because "hey, I can wear this at work and outside of work". Nope, not happening! Here are a few outfits I've sported in the last few weeks, and similar buys.
