So, to be honest, I kind of want to skip my recap of Magic Kingdom because I just was not feeling it at all. Did we have fun? Yeah, we did. At first blush, It was all fun and excitement. Seriously, I couldn't wait to see some freaking Disney Princesses! But for the most part, and especially compared to the two other parks we visited, the Magic Kingdom was a major let down. Here's why:
Day 2: Magic Kingdom
I enjoyed the cute little shops on Main Street minus all the god foresaken strollers and crying children everywhere. I can't tell you how many times I thought "Shut the hell up, you little asshole! You're at Disney World! The happiest place on Earth! What are you crying for?!" Kids are the worst and Magic Kingdom was swamped with them. I was hoping that by going on a Tuesday, there would be significantly fewer children.. I was wrong.
I did get a little thrill when I saw Cinderella's Castle. How could you not? It's so massive and ornate. Obviously, this was another necessary photo op.
Our first stop was to Adventure Land, where we got a Dole Whip on suggestion of a friend. It wasn't bad, albeit pretty bland, in my opinion. I was hoping for a little more flavor, but at least it helped cool us down!
Soon we found ourselves in Redneck USA (or Country Towne or something). All I know is that there was hoedown music and people with straw in their teeth. I lived in Alabama for 9 years so... been there done that. Splash Mountain was located in Hickville, but the line was over and hour long, so we skipped it and hightailed it out of there before the mixed half of our dynamic duo (read: me) was chased out with a pitchfork.
Next we ended up smack dab in front of the Haunted Mansion, which was actually pretty awesome. I like anything pseudo-scary, so obviously this was happening.
The exterior set was pretty cool. I bet it would be awesome at night with some creepy music and a smoke machine.
There was also one Captain Culpepper Clyne. He is apparently allergic to dirt, so he's covered in brine. He braved the sea and all her wrath, but drowned on land while taking a bath. Idiot. I loved this. I still randomly recite this little poem because I thought it was hilarious. Must have been high off the Dole Whip.
This was the only good shot I got of the interior of the Haunted Mansion (no flash allowed), but it was pretty freaking cool. This here is a floating head. They also had the see through holographic looking images of dozens of ghosts drinking and dancing. I don't know how they did it, but the effect was pretty incredible.
Next we went to Abu Dhabi or whatever the hell this place was called. Now, here's where I'm about to get real emotional with ya'll. All I wanted- ALL I WANTED- from MK was to see Ariel. I know, I am a ridiculous 5 year old, but damnit, I wanted to see the mermaid! In all the ads for MK, the place is absolutely flooded with characters. Not so. We walked the entire park that day, and the only people we saw were Aladdin and Jasmine. Freaking. Lame.
On our way out, we spotted the Town Square Theatre. I had hoped maybe she would be featured in the Storybook Princesses show, but again- no mermaid to be seen anywhere. Sad day at the MK.
So, yeah... f*ck you Micky and Minnie. I never liked you anyway.
Is this par for the course for being an adult at MK or did I just have bad luck? And has ANYONE seen Ariel?!

When I've gone, I've seen Ariel in her grotto, but I think they've closed it down to make way for Belle's castle. I want to say I've seen her at Epcot, too. But I do find it strange that you only saw Jasmin & Aladdin! Maybe you just caught them at a bad time? Don't let this experience ruin it for you, though! Go back when kids are in school! Most recently, we went during Mardi Gras that fell in early March & it was perfect!
I went to the Magic Kingdom last winter with Husband & my in-laws, and just like you, I was totally underwhelmed. I went a few of times as a kid and thought it was amazing and magical, but as an adult, it really didn't keep the same appeal. Universal Studios, on the other hand...
I know that Nichole just mentioned it too, but have you read about all the reno that's going on over there? Apparently Snow White's Scary Adventure or whatever it's called is being shut down and in it's place they're building a Princess meet and greet building where all of them are apparently going to be...perhaps you'll have to return to see that! I bet they'll do a good job with it. And I will be interested to see the Beast's castle when it's revealed!
hahahaha. After reading so many pretentious WDW trip recaps, yours is so freaking refreshing. I have to say. I was just there on Thursday and saw Ariel in her green dress at the entrance to Adventureland? I was surprised because I've never seen her in anything but her tail but she looked cute & Prince Eric was taking pictures with her.
So hopefully you can go back and see her. They are opening a Mermaid ride in the fall/winter and I'm sure she'll have a meet & greet over there soon too.
I'm sad you didn't like your Dole Whip. :( Maybe they didn't make it right? Ours was super pinappley last time.

Watch the daytime parade, you'll see her on a float with other Princesses. Also at Hollywood Studios she has her own live show which is basically a condensed version of The Little Mermaid movie. When the new Fantasyland expansion opens, you'll be able to ride on a Little Mermaid ride. Book your next vacation with Bob from Pixie Vacations; there's no extra charge and he'll make sure you see everything you want. Can't believe you didn't get an Orange Grey Goose Slush in France! Yum!
